●Why did you want to study abroad in Japan? / なぜ日本に留学しようと思ったのですか。
I have been studying Japanese for about 5 years and I wanted to work on it in Japan. I also like Japanese culture, especially traditional crafts which can only be enjoyed here.
私は約5年間日本語を勉強してきたので、日本で勉強したかったからです。また日本文化、特にここでしか味わえない伝統工芸も好きです。
●Why did you choose Tokushima University for your studying abroad? / 徳島大学を選んだ理由は何ですか。
University of Zagreb and Tokushima University signed a new contract last year so it was a good opportunity to go to Japan for a year.
ザグレブ大学と徳島大学が昨年協定を結んだので、1年間日本にくる良い機会となりました。
●What subject have you been studying in your home university? / 自国では何を勉強していましたか。
I major in French and Russian translation, but I study Japanese additionally.
専攻はフランス語とロシア語ですが、加えて日本語も勉強しています。
●How did you prepare for studying in Japan? / 日本留学に向けてどのような準備をしましたか。
I did the procedure required by the university. Other than that, I didn’t have any particular preparation.
大学から要求された手続きを行いました。それ以外には、特別な準備はしませんでした。
●How was your experience in Tokushima? For example, was there anything that surprised you? / 徳島に来てどうでしたか。例えば、驚いたことはありますか。
My experience was mostly positive. I liked the classes and the professors, who were all very welcoming and willing to help. I also participated in events outside of school and made friends there. The only major negative experience was having to cycle to school during rainy season and later in 30℃ weather, both of which I believe is dangerous. It was surprising to me that there are so few buses and trains that you really don’t have a choice except to cycle to school ( and especially if you ‘re going out in the evening because you don’t have another way of going home).
私の留学経験はほとんど良いものでした。授業やいつも快く助けてくれる先生方は好きでした。また、大学外のイベントに参加して、そこで友達も作れました。唯一のネガティブな経験は梅雨の時期や30℃以上の気候のときに自転車で通学しないといけないことでした。バスや汽車がほとんど通っていないので通学に自転車しか選択がないこと、特にもし夜に出かけるとなると、他に帰宅する方法がないことに驚きました。
●Have you used the Culture Lounge while you are in Tokushima University? How did you like using Culture Lounge? / 徳島大学ではカルチャー・ラウンジは利用しましたか。また、利用してどうでしたか。
I have used the Culture Lounge both to talk to people and to rest or study there. It is a nice place to hang out with friends and the people who come there are very lovely.
おしゃべりしたり、休憩や勉強のためにカルチャーラウンジを利用しました。友達と交流するのに良い場所で、そこに来る人はみんな素敵な人でした。
●How was your learning experience with courses at Tokushima University? / 徳島大学での勉強（受講）はどうでしたか。
The classes I took were mostly good and improved my Japanese skills. However, it is hard to find many classes for students moving from JLPT N3 towards N2 and I wish there were more classes especially for those students (reading classes in particular).
私が受講していた授業のほとんどは良く、私の日本語スキルが上達しました。しかし、JLPT N3からN2の学生にとっては（受講できる）授業を見つけるのが大変でした。特にreading の授業など、もっと受講できる科目があればと思います。
●Are there any big differences with student life in Tokushima and the country where your university is? / 学生生活について、日本と自国とでは大きな違いがありますか。
I had to take fewer classes here than at home, which was nice because I could be more relaxed than at my home university. I feel like the professors here are also more open and available to students.
自国よりも少なめの受講だったので、自国の大学よりリラックスして受けることが出来、良かったです。こちらの先生方はより開放的に学生対応してくれるように感じました。
●What did you get an impact out of the most in your life of Japan or Tokushima? / 日本（徳島）での生活で一番印象深いものは何ですか。
It is hard to choose just one experience, but I think meeting Saborumasu-san from Kitajima International Friendship Association (KIFA) has been an important part of my exchange and has added a lot of value to my stay. Another memorable experience is talking about Croatia at an elementary school in Kitajima (thanks to Mrs Saborumaru). The students really listened to our presentation and I had a lot of fun fun with them.
1つに絞るのは難しいですが、北島町国際交流協会（KIFA）の Saborumaruさんに出会ったことは、私の交換留学の重要な部分で、私の滞在に多くの価値を付けてくれました。他の思い出深い経験は北島町の小学校でクロアチアについて話したことです（Saborumaruさん、有難うございます）。生徒たちは皆、熱心に私たちの話を聞いてくれて、彼らととても楽しい時間が過ごせました。
●What is your goal in the future? / 将来の目標は何ですか。
I am not sure what my job will be, but I would definitely like to somehow stay connected to Japan.
まだ何の仕事に就くか分かりませんが、絶対、なにか日本と関わっていたいと思います。
●Could you leave advice to students who want to study abroad in the future? / 留学を考えている学生に向けてアドバイスをお願いします。
Regarding the dorm situation, I do not recommend living in Kitajima dormitory for a year. The dorm manager, Tamura-san, is very nice and helpful and if you have issues with your room, she will try to solve them. However, the dorm itself is not as much of a problem as cycling all the time. Even though I enjoy cycling, rainy season and summer weather (humidity and 30+℃ weather) wore me out. I really think it’s dangerous to cycle like that and if you’re not willing to deal with that, it’s better to move somewhere close to school.
For those who don’t only want to take Japanese classes, I recommend taking some classes in English held by foreign professors as you may make nice connections and have conversations about life in Japan with people who understand your situation.
I also recommend meeting people outside of school (though part time jobs, international events etc) as these might become some of the most valuable experiences you have here.
寮について、1年間北島の寮に住むことはお勧めしません。寮の管理人の田村さんはとても良い人で助けてくれますし、部屋に何か問題があれば解決しようとしれくれます。ですが、寮自体はサイクリングと同じほどの問題ではありません。私はサイクリングが好きですが、梅雨の時期と夏の気候（湿度と30℃以上の気候）のときは本当に大変でした。あんな風に自転車に乗ることは本当に危険だと思います。もし無理なようならどこか、大学の近くに引っ越した方が良いと思います。
日本語の授業ばかり受けたくない人は、英語で開講されている外国人教員の授業を受けることをお勧めします。あなたの状況を理解してくれる方と良い繋がりができ、日本での生活についての話も出来ると思います。
また、アルバイトや国際的なイベントなどを通して、大学外での人々に会うこともお勧めします。それらはここでの大変価値のある経験になると思います。
