●Why did you want to study abroad in Japan? / なぜ日本に留学しようと思ったのですか。
I wanted to learn more about Japan and also improve my Japanese. I also wanted to see how it is living in a country very different from Sweden so I decided to study in Japan.
日本のことをもっと勉強して、日本語を上達させたかったからです。また、スウェーデンとは全く異なった国での生活を体験したいと思い日本への留学を決めました。
●Why did you choose Tokushima University for your studying abroad? / 徳島大学を選んだ理由は何ですか。
We had about six different universities that we could study at through our university in Sweden. Tokushima University was recommended by friends of mine and Tokushima was appealing because it seemed very unique and Japanese. Something like Tokyo and Kyoto is of course also unique in it’s own way but there are a lot of foreigners living there and I wanted to mostly live around Japanese people.
スウェーデンの大学を通して6大学からの選択がありました。徳島大学は私の友人から勧められましたし、徳島がとてもユニークで日本らしく思ったので魅力がありました。東京や京都ももちろん独自のユニークさはありますが外国人がたくさん住んでいるので、私は日本人が回りに多い環境の中で生活したかったからです。
●What subject have you been studying in your home university? / 自国では何を勉強していましたか。
I only studied Japanese for two years.
日本語を2年間勉強しました。
●How did you prepare for studying in Japan? / 日本留学に向けてどのような準備をしましたか。
Didn’t do any preparation except the studies I had done at my university.
私の大学で勉強したこと以外は特別な準備はしなかったです。
●How was your experience in Tokushima? For example, was there anything that surprised you? / 徳島に来てどうでしたか。例えば、驚いたことはありますか。
It was great. Of course there are surprising things when it comes to the lifestyle of Japanese people. The politeness of Japanese people is really unique but also things like how Japanese people look at politics and work is very interesting. Young people especially don’t seem to care about politics very much. But in Sweden some kind of opinion about politics is normal.
すごく良かったです。もちろん日本人の生活スタイルで驚いたことはあります。日本人の丁寧さはともユニークでしたし、政治や仕事についてのものの見方はとても興味深かったです。若い人は特に政治についてあまり気にかけていないようでした。でもスウェーデンでは政治についていくらか意見をもつことは普通です。
●Have you used the Culture Lounge while you are in Tokushima University? How did you like using Culture Lounge? / 徳島大学ではカルチャー・ラウンジは利用しましたか。また、利用してどうでしたか。
Yes I was there a lot. I thought it was great because if I didn’t have any plans and didn’t want to spend time at home I could go to the Culture Lounge to meet and talk to people and often plans were made there. So thanks to the Culture Lounge I had tons of fun. Definitely one of my favorite things about Tokushima University.
はい、たくさん利用しました。何も予定がない時や自宅にいたくないときなどはカルチャー・ラウンジに行ってそこでみんなと会って話したり、プランを立てたりしたので、良かったと思います。たくさんの楽しい時間を過ごせたので、カルチャー・ラウンジに感謝します。確実に徳島大学でのお気に入りのうちの1つです。
●How was your learning experience with courses at Tokushima University? / 徳島大学での勉強（受講）はどうでしたか。
The courses meant for exchange students were what I appreciated the most. I also loved the fact that all courses were in Japanese. Some other universities give lessons in English for exchange students but that would not be as helpful I believe.
交換留学生のためのコースについては一番有難いと思いました。（私が受講した）全ての授業が日本語だったのはすごく良かったです。他の大学では交換留学生の授業が英語で行われるところがありますが、それはあまり役に立つとは私は思いません。
●Are there any big differences with student life in Tokushima and the country where your university is? / 学生生活について、日本と自国とでは大きな違いがありますか。
Yes, definitely. In Sweden it’s not even necessary to go to the lessons. It’s recommended of course but very often it’s possible to skip the lessons and instead study the materials from books and later on do a test. Of course there are exceptions where it is necessary to go to the lessons to show what you have learnt. So the biggest difference I would say is that in Sweden it feels more like it’s the student’s own responsibility to learn the course material but in Japan it’s important to learn it from the teacher.
はい、はっきりとあります。スウェーデンでは授業にあまり出る必要がありません。もちろん出席することを勧められますが、受講をスキップできるのであればそうして、代わりに教科書等で勉強しテストを受けます。もちろん例外もあり、授業に出席して勉強してきた事を示さないといけないときもあります。ですので、大きな違いはスウェーデンでは学生の責任のもとコースを勉強し、日本では教員から学ぶことが大切だというところです。
●What did you get an impact out of the most in your life of Japan or Tokushima? / 日本（徳島）での生活で一番印象深いものは何ですか。
It’s hard to say just one thing. But I would say just talking with Japanese people in the Culture Lounge gave me a very strong impact of how Japanese young people see the world and how I see the world. That definitely has affected the way I see the world.
1つだけ答えるのは難しいですが、カルチャー・ラウンジで日本人と話したことは、日本の若い人と自分との世界の見方についてとても強いインパクトがありました。そのことは私の世界の見方に明らかに影響を及ぼしました。
●What is your goal in the future? / 将来の目標は何ですか。
I don’t have a very specific goal. I want to do all I can to enjoy my life to the fullest. But I have a big interest in making games so if I can I’d want to make a game that I can release both in Japan and the west.
あまり具体的なゴールはありませんが、人生を存分に楽しめるためにできる全てのことをしたいです。ゲームの製作に興味があるので、出来るなら日本と欧米に発売できるゲームを作りたいです。
●Could you leave advice to students who want to study abroad in the future? / 留学を考えている学生に向けてアドバイスをお願いします。
Go to the Culture Lounge and talk to the students there. Just speaking with the people there and making friends is going to affect you for the rest of your life.
カルチャー・ラウンジへ行って学生たちと話してください。人々と話して友達を作ることで、あなたのこれからの人生に影響を及ぼすと思います。
